Tornados

A Tornado is a violent storm with whirling winds of up to 300 miles per hour. It appears as a funnel shaped cloud, from gray to black in color, which extends to the ground from the base of the thunderstorm. A tornado spins like a top and may sound like the roaring of an airplane or locomotive. Tornados move at an average speed of 30 mph and generally move from the southwest to northeast. Their direction of travel can be erratic and may change suddenly. These short-lived storms are the most violent of all atmospheric phenomena and the most destructive, over a small area. ARES Did you know that you can legally report a situation which is an immediate and imminent danger to life or property on any Skywarn or Ares net? No you do not have to be a member as long as it follows the above criteria. If you see a tornado, give the prosign "break" followed by your callsign on any Skywarn net and REPORT IT! It is your moral responsibility to do so! Your own family or neighbors could be at risk! You may report basic criteria on an ARES net and ONLY EMERGENCY criteria on a SKYWARN net if you are not a member!
